The 2024 GMC Canyon Gets Some Updates

The 2024 GMC Canyon also introduces GM’s TurboMax branding to the lineup.

The 2024 GMC Canyon follows as the second model year for the latest third-generation pickup, dropping in with some critical updates compared to the overhauled 2023 model year. Among those modifications is the deletion of the mid-level Turbo Plus 2.7L engine. In addition, the 2024 GMC Canyon additionally adopts GM’s TurboMax engine branding. GM uses the TurboMax name along with the high-output model of the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine. It’s possible the TurboMax brand will expand to different turbocharged gasoline engines in the future.  

The 2023 GMC Canyon was formerly available with three engine options, specifically, the Turbo 2.7L I4 L2R gasoline engine, rated at 237 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 260 pound-feet of torque at 1,200 rpm, the Turbo Plus 2.7 I4 L3B gasoline engine, rated at 310 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 391 pound-feet of torque at 2,000 rpm, and the Turbo High-Output 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, rated at 310 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 430 pound-feet of torque at 3,000 rpm. The L2R engine was equipped as standard on WT and LT trim levels, and the Turbo Plus L3B engine became optionally available for WT and LT trims and standard on Trail Boss and Z71 trim levels, and the Turbo High-Output L3B became optional on LT, Trail Boss, and Z71 trims, and standard on the ZR2 trim.

GM filed a trademark application with the USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office) in January of 2023 to secure the TurboMax brand. The brand was finally implemented to the turbocharged L3B gasoline engine cradled by the 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 and 2024 GMC Sierra 1500. Now, the engine logo has been implemented in the 2024 GMC Canyon as well.

The start of regular manufacturing for the 2024 GMC Canyon is about to kick off on October 30, 2023. Production will once more take place at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri. Dealerships will be capable of placing orders for the 2024 GMC Canyon soon, while retail orders can be processed later in September (2023).
