New Buick and GMC Vehicles Will Feature Mandatory OnStar Services

General Motors (GM) will be equipping all its new 2022 and 2023 Buick and GMC vehicles with its OnStar and Connected Services Plan. The automaker initially offered its OnStart plan as an optional feature, but now it will be included in the cost of the vehicle’s MSRP. Consumers can now expect new vehicles like the 2023 GMC Canyon, 2023 GMC Yukon, and 2023 Buick Envision to automatically come equipped with the OnStar plan. While it may seem like added costs, this new inclusion may allow consumers who wouldn’t otherwise purchase the OnStar plan to use the full capabilities of their vehicle. We’ll take a closer look at GM’s decision and see what consumers can expect.

GM Will Make OnStar and Connected Services Plan Mandatory

According to a recent decision by General Motors (GM), the automaker will now be including its OnStar and Connected Services Plan on all its newer vehicles. While this Onstar plan was initially optional, consumers who purchase a 2022 or 2023 model year vehicle will see the service implemented into the cost of the MSRP. About this new decision, a GM spokesperson said,

“To enhance our customers’ vehicle ownership experience, beginning June 2, 2022, new retail Buick and GMC vehicles will include three years of OnStar and Connected Services Premium Plan,” said a GM spokesperson. “This offering provides our owners with a full suite of OnStar and Connected Services for three years, providing them with more time to enjoy services such as remote key fob, Wi-Fi data, and OnStar safety services. By including this plan as standard equipment on the vehicle, it provides more customer value and a more seamless onboarding experience.”

GM’s OnStar and Connected Services Plan will be included with new vehicles for 3 years. Owners of newer models will be able to enjoy a full array of internet-enabled features. These include navigation maps, audio streaming, and the Alexa AI assistant. As GM offers more EV models like the GMC Hummer EV SUV, these OnStar services will play a larger role in allowing owners to use GM’s Ultium Charge 360 Platform. Consumers looking at newer GM vehicles can expect to pay between $905 and $1,675 more depending on their desired trim level. This decision may seem frivolous, but as more technology and driver-assist features become implemented, drivers will be happy to have full access to their vehicle’s services.
