2022 GMC Sierra Receives Refreshed Look with X31 Package

The 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 was recently spotted in an XLT trim with an X31 off-road package. It seems that GMC will be making the X31 off-road package available for the GMC Sierra for the 2022 model year. It’s good to see the automaker updating its iconic vehicles. Like many other automakers, GMC has been working toward EVs. Their GMC Hummer EV has been making headlines with its rugged features and modern capabilities. Still, the competition has been fierce with each automaker aiming to inspire confidence in their customers that they can make the shift toward EVs. It’s good to see GMC taking care to keep their lineup updated and modern like with the 2023 GMC Canyon. Although consumer interest in EVs has been increasing, there are still those who want the familiar feel of a combustion engine vehicle.

2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Gets X31 Package

The 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 XLT was recently spotted sporting an X31 off-road package. The pickup was a pre-production version, but it was equipped with the same features available in the X31 package. For the 2022 model year, the X31 off-road package will be returning to the GMC Sierra. It will be available on the Sierra Pro, SLE, Elevation, and SLT trim levels. It will feature a four-wheel drive and either a double cab or crew cab setup. 

The X31 package is the GMC equivalent of the Z71 off-road package available for the Chevy Silverado 1500. As such, it will include similar equipment including off-road suspension, hill descent control, skid plates, auto-locking rear differentials, a 2-speed transfer case, and rear wheelhouse liners. The X31 package will also include heavy-duty air filters, X31 badging, 18-inch aluminum wheels, and a dual exhaust system. 

The 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 will hit dealership lots in the first quarter of 2022. The pickup will start at an MSRP of $32,495 (plus destination fee). Pricing for the X31 off-road package is not yet available, but depending on the pickup trim, it may scale higher in price. It should be noted that the X31 package will offer different features depending on the trim level. One good thing, however, is that the X31 package will come available with all four of the Sierra’s engine types. These include the turbocharged 2.7L LCB I-4, the naturally aspirated 5.3L L84 V8, a 3.0L LM2 I-6 turbo diesel Duramax, and the naturally aspirated 6.2L L87 V8.
