The 2023 GMC Canyon is in equipment to draw a crowd of customers. General Motors takes the Canyon’s all-terrain prowess up another notch with the 2023 Canyon AT4X and the approaching Canyon AT4X AEV Edition.
2023 GMC Canyon
The Canyon AT4X has a 2.7L Turbo High-Output Engine with 310 horsepower, a best-in-class 430 lb.-feet of torque, and a towing capacity of 5,500. The GMC vehicles are dependable. This high-torque engine is optimized for off-roading on uneven terrains and has higher horsepower and torque than the outgoing 3.6L V6 engine. It comes standard with an off-road chassis package with two factory-installed lifts and a 3.5 widened track. That gives Canyon a standard ground clearance of 9.6″ and a 33.3-degree approach angle.
For the first time ever, the Canyon features the MultimaticTM DSSV dampers powering AT4X feature dynamic spool valves for extended off-road applications and how it works is that the dampers feature three spool valves to control damping and three connected chambers for fluid flow. Every Canyon AT4X consists of a unique valve specially designed for off-roading applications. It is activated when the wheel travels outside the everyday road operating motion range, supplying more dampening during prolonged wheel travel and high-impact compression events.
The AT4X Edition 1 includes:
- Exclusive Edition 1 Tailgate Badging
- 17″ Beadlock-Capable Wheels
- Performance Front Skid Plate
- Front 30″ Off-Road Grille Light Bar
- Off-Road Front Bumper with Safari Bar
- Front and Rear Underbody Cameras
- Winch by COMEUP
- Reconfigurable Bed Rails
It is ready with everything any consumer is asking for. The Canyon is full of new technology and an updated, redesigned look. It’s no wonder that it is making an impact already.
Design
GM Authority Executive Editor Alex Luft asked GMC designers at the 2023 GMC Canyon media drive if this concept influenced the 2023 Canyon’s design.
“It offered up a lot of opportunities that we weren’t looking at for that truck,” GMC designers are quoted as saying. “When we built that concept, we built it around what that overland customer could do. When you look at the overland space, we want GMC to be in there because GMC has an unbelievable reliability score and customer base. That concept was kind of a tool for us to realize what that could be.”
The 2023 Canyon AT4X exterior has been designed to give a significant impact with its bold redesigned grille and headlamps, 17-inch Beadlock-capable wheels (Edition 1 feature), and larger off-road tires. The 2023 GMC Canyon can have perforated leather seat upholstery and Laser-etched genuine wood trim. An 11.3-inch touch-screen infotainment display and an 11-inch digital instrument cluster. A 6.3-inch head-up display. A Bose seven-speaker premium sound system. And an off-road performance display, a wheel-slip and steering angle indicator, and much more.
Trims
These trims will include the balanced, budget-accommodating GMC Canyon Elevation, the stunningly luxurious GMC Canyon Denali, the all-terrain exploring GMC Canyon AT4, and the 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X. The 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X is a souped-up GMC Canyon AT4, riding high with all the off-road upgrades on anyone’s wishlist.
