J.D. Power’s analysis firm ALG recently published its annual Automotive Residual Value Awards. The study evaluated 293 competing nameplates and selected 28 models that are projected to retain the highest residual value after a three-year lease. For the 2024 model year, the GMC Sierra 3500 HD, a heavy-duty pickup truck, was the only General Motors vehicle to receive the award. Besides, the Chevy Corvette and Chevy Trax, two other GM nameplates, were recognized as winners in their respective categories.

The Sierra 3500 HD received the top spot in the large heavy-duty pickup segment for retaining the highest residual value over three years. This recognition is a testament to the vehicle’s exceptional design, quality, and desirability, both in terms of the individual model and the GM brand overall.

Various factors were evaluated by J.D. Power’s study in making its residual value forecasts and awards. The study considered design, quality, desirability, options and features, current trends and economic conditions, and even weather and climate. The winners in each automotive segment were selected through a combination of algorithmic modeling, artificial intelligence, and skilled human analysts.

The J.D. Power Automotive Residual Value Awards are a valuable resource for consumers who want to make informed decisions about which vehicles retain the most value at the end of a three-year lease. By selecting cars with higher residual values, consumers can get the most out of their investment and maximize their returns.

The 2024 GMC Sierra HD is the latest iteration of the heavy-duty truck’s fifth generation, which comes with a mid-cycle refresh. This model year brings the introduction of the luxurious 2024 GMC Sierra HD Denali Ultimate, along with a complete revamp of the interior and exterior designs across all the trim levels. The model has been equipped with new technologies such as Adaptive Cruise Control, and the ProGrade trailering system now enables it to tow up to 36,000 lbs.

The powertrain options available for the 2024 GMC Sierra HD are the standard 6.6L L8T V8 gasoline engine and the optional 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax engine. The latter has been upgraded to provide an SAE-certified 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque. Both engines use the GM 10-speed automatic transmission for seamless gear changes.
