GMC Announces All-New Canyon AT4 OvrlandX
GMC is stirring up excitement with its latest concept vehicle, the Canyon AT4 OvrlandX. The automaker has been updating its lineup with new all-wheel drives and engines, and it has also started work on an all-new 2023 GMC Canyon. Along with all of that, GMC is now appealing to a certain market that has grown in popularity over the years. The latest vehicle from GMC comes as a rugged and tough overlanding pickup truck. Overlanding is a popular blend of off-roading and camping that the Canyon AT4 OvrlandX was made specifically for. This vehicle allows owners to live comfortably and easily for days at a time wherever they desire. It’s based on the original Canyon AT4, but GMC takes the mid-sized pickup to a whole other level. Let’s check out the latest concept vehicle debuted from GMC and see exactly what it has to offer.
New Concept Vehicle: The Canyon AT4 OvrlandX
GMC’s new Canyon AT4 OvrlandX was initially introduced at the Overland Expo Mountain West in Colorado. The concept vehicle uses the stock Canyon AT4 and beefs it up. It gets a heavy-duty front bumper with a winch and recovery points. It also gets AEV rear bumpers, rocker-panel protectors, increased underbody protection, and 33-inch BFGoodrich KM3 Mud-Terrain tires. Together with 17-inch AEV Crestone wheels, a lifted suspension, and a wider track, the Canyon AT4 OvlandX gets 10 inches of ground clearance. The modified mid-sized pickup also features a 27.7-degree approach angle. Speaking further about the new concept vehicle, lead creative designer John Ownes said,
“The Canyon AT4 OvrlandX concept truck was designed to balance functionality with aesthetics. When you’re overlanding, capability is an important factor, but doing it with premium style and comfort elevates the experience even further for customers who truly want zero compromises,” John Owens.
Additional modifications to the Canyon AT4 OvrlandX include electronically locking front and rear differentials along with a winch. The new concept vehicle uses the same 3.6L V6 engine and eight-speed automatic transmission as seen in the Canyon AT4. This may change in the future as the car is still in development, but as for visuals, new additions include black wheel flares, custom grille, and headlight finishes, unique AT4 badges, a special leather interior.
One of the more important features of the new Canyon AT4 OvrlandX is the gear and equipment tailored toward overlanding. The truck bed features sliding drawers for storage and the truck canopy has sides that fold down. These come with a camp kitchen and stove on one side, and bed access on the other. At the top of the rack system is a roof-top tent with solar panels. With all the features of the Canyon AT4 OvrlandX, it’s clear that GMC took a lot into consideration. Though it’s still a concept, the new midsize pickup truck gives many something to look forward to. The rugged vehicle could allow GMC to compete with other brands like Ford and Toyota. We’ll have to wait and see what else GMC has in store, but so far the Canyon AT4 OvrlandX looks very promising.
