GM is looking to make a splash with its newly announced 2023 GMC Canyon. Built at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri, GM is hoping to make good on its investment by bringing consumers a bold new mid-size pickup.

With information slowly leaking, not much is known about GM’s next iteration of the GMC Canyon. Looking at spy shots, we can speculate and theorize about some of the new features and improvements. The third-generation 2023 GMC Canyon looks to come with a brand new exterior and interior. It is expected to share a platform with its second-generation model and additional features and improvements are expected to revolve around safety and technology.

Expected Features of the 2023 GMC Canyon

Combining healthy speculation and theory, looking at the 2023 GMC Canyon we believe GM will be focusing on an overhauled Canyon pickup. We expect changes to the 2023 GMC Canyon to include a new exterior and interior, a revised platform, a new powertrain, and improved safety features.

The exterior for the all-new 2023 GMC Canyon looks to be more aggressive than previous models. The front fascia gives a more stubby, upright appearance, fender flares appear bolder, and a sheet metal treatment on the doors offers a more intricate design. It also looks like vertically-oriented LED lights run down the front fascia.

The interior of the all-new 2023 GMC Canyon looks to make use of GM’s new Global B electrical architecture platform. Also known as the Vehicle Intelligence Platform (VIP), this system allows for the latest in infotainment and safety technology. It includes an over-the-air update system which will help provide drivers with specific information about their vehicle. Safety is always a priority. As such, the new 2023 GMC Canyon is expected to offer improved features like adaptive cruise control and blind zone alerts.

We expect the 2023 GMC Canyon to ride on an updated version of GM’s current GMT-31XX mid-size body-on-frame architecture. Engine choice will be limited as the 2023 Canyon will no longer offer a turbo-diesel Duramax engine or six-cylinder engine. Instead, the all-new mid-size pickup is expected to feature a turbocharged GM 2.7L L3B four-cylinder engine with an estimated horsepower of 310 and 348lb-ft of torque. The 2023 GMC Canyon will also feature a 10-speed automatic transmission.

The 2023 GMC Canyon is expected to come in several trims. These include an Elevation Standard trim, an AT4 trim, and a Denali trim. The mid-size pickup is set to launch in the second half of 2022.
