2023 GMC Sierra 1500 to Receive New Turbo Diesel Engine
General Motors (GM) will be adding a new turbo-diesel engine option to the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500. The full-size pickup was recently updated so it will arrive with a refreshed look as well as stronger capability. As of late, GM has been focusing on bringing its new EVs like the GMC Hummer EV and a potential Buick EV to the market. This has been in an effort to compete with other automakers like Ford and Ram as they aim to produce their own electric vehicles. This focus on EVs hasn’t stopped GM from improving its combustion engine lineup, however. The 2023 GMC Sierra will be getting a new engine to help it better match the performance of pickup trucks like the F-150 Lightning. We’ll take a look at the new engine and see what consumers can expect.
GMC Sierra 1500 to Feature New Engine
The 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 will be getting a new turbo-diesel engine courtesy of General Motors (GM). The automaker will be improving upon the current 3.0L I-6 turbo-diesel engine used for the GMC Sierra. The current 3.0L is capable of 277 horsepower and 460lb-ft of torque. It’s also paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Depending on the trim and package used, the full-size pickup can reach a max payload rating of 1,930 pounds with a max towing capacity of 13,300 pounds. This engine also has fuel returns of 23 mpg in the city, 30 mpg on the highway, and 26 mpg combined.
The 2023 GMC Sierra’s new turbo-diesel engine will be a 3.0L I6 Duramax. Not much information has been released yet, but we do know some details about the new engine. It will feature turbocharged aspiration, 3.0-liters of displacement, and a new inline-six-cylinder arrangement. It may also improve upon the output and fuel returns compared to the current turbo-diesel engine.
The 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 will see a boost in performance with the new engine arriving. With several trim options available, consumers have a lot of variety when it comes to the full-size pickup. While the highest trim (the Denali Ultimate) goes for an MSRP of $81,100 (plus destination fee), the base trim (the Pro) goes for an MSRP of 34,600 (plus destination fee). Consumers have a lot of choices in how capable and versatile they’d like their 2023 GMC Sierra to be. For now, we’ll stay tuned for more information about the new turbo-diesel engine.
