2022 GMC Canyon Receives Minor Changes

January 7th, 2022 by

GMC will be making a slight change to the 2022 GMC Canyon. GMC had previously updated the midsize pickup for the 2022 model year with several new trims like Elevation Standard, AT4, and Denali. There has also been some talk, along with spy shots, of a 2023 GMC Canyon. This leads many to believe that GMC is simply doing some bare necessity changes before rolling out an all-new pickup truck. The changes GMC is making are minor after all. They include the option for wireless charging as well as a new spare wheel for the AT4 trim. This isn’t all too surprising however as the automaker has been spending time and resources toward its own electric vehicle, the GMC Hummer EV. We’ll dive into the minor changes though and see what we can expect from the 2022 Canyon.

Minor Changes to 2022 Canyon

GMC, like many automakers, has been working toward its own electric vehicles. The all-new all-electric GMC Hummer EV has been making headlines as consumers learn more about its capabilities and versatility. Despite their focus on EVs, GMC is still providing its consumers with the latest updates and features for vehicles currently in circulation. This goes for the 2022 GMC Canyon which many believe will be getting a completely new remodel sometime in 2023 or 2024. For now, GMC is providing 2022 Canyon owners with some slight changes and updates. These aren’t dramatic changes, but they signal that GMC is still showing attention to some of its more popular vehicles.

The first change to the 2022 Canyon will involve wireless charging. GMC will be making the wireless charging feature inside the Canyon’s cabin optional. This may be due to the ongoing chip shortage, but now owners seeking the extra convenience will have to pay a little extra. This will be the standard for the Denali trim.

The only other change to the 2022 Canyon will be a new gloss black aluminum spare wheel for the AT4 trim. It will be available with a Crew Cab and a short bed setup. This rim will replace the steel spare wheel that comes standard with the Elevation, Elevation Standard, Denali trims. The High Elevation Package will also be getting a new name, the Elevation Premium Package. These changes aren’t groundbreaking, but they let consumers know GMC is still paying attention to things other than EVs.
