2021 Buick Encore GX Receives IIHS Top Safety Rating
The 2021 Buick Encore GX recently earned a Top Safety Pick Rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The compact SUV was put through a series of tests to determine its safety potential. The Buick Encore GX managed to pass with several good ratings although it missed the Top Safety Pick+ rating by a few points. The Top Safety Pick+ rating is one of the highest and it is only awarded to those vehicles who earn a good or acceptable rating across all trims. This means the 2021 Buick Encore GX stands as a highly safe vehicle but that other trims may be lacking in certain areas. Still, the IIHS regulates vehicle safety to ensure consumers have the opportunity to know exactly what they’re getting when they purchase a vehicle. Buick has done well with the 2021 Buick Encore GX. We’ll have to see what lies in store for 2022 and whether the SUV will get any new safety features, but for now, it seems like a solid choice.
2021 Buick Encore GX Receives Top Safety Pick
The 2021 Buick Encore GX received a good rating for most of its IIHS tests. These tests included the passenger-side small overlap front, driver-side small overlap front, side, roof strength, and head restraint. The Buck Encore GX scored a good rating throughout these tests. The compact SUV managed to score a superior rating in the front crash prevention vehicle-to-vehicle test and the front crash prevention vehicle-to-pedestrian test. These ratings were all made possible by Buick’s safety Buick Driver Confidence system. This safety system comes standard on all 2021 Buick vehicles and includes a list of driver-assist and safety features. Some of these include forward collision alerts, automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, IntelliBeam high beams, and front pedestrian braking.
Where the 2021 Buick Encore GX missed was with its headlight tests. The compact SUV managed to score an average rating where its headlights were concerned. To earn the Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS a vehicle needs to score a good or acceptable rating across all its trims. The 2021 Buick Encore GX did not meet these criteria on certain trims, but the vehicle did earn an acceptable rating for its child seat anchor latch. Vehicles must have their entire inside and outside examined when evaluated for safety. Some vehicles earn higher scores than others but this may be due to a difference in what automakers choose to focus on.
In 2020, the Buick Encore GX earned a four-star crash rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). For 2021, the Buick Encore GX managed to score a top five-star crash rating. This higher rating came from hardware and software updates which improved the Encore’s performance. Buick has a solid grasp of what is needed to keep drivers safe. Their 2021 Buick Encore came close to earning the highest rating. Hopefully the automaker will take this into consideration for future vehicles. For now, the Buick Encore remains a solid vehicle that has near top-level safety ratings from both the IIHS and the NHTSA.
